Girded With Strength, Set Upon High Places — A Prayer From Psalm 18:32–33 (KJV)
“[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ [feet], and setteth me upon my high places.” — Psalms 18:32-33!["[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect.

Most Holy and Almighty God, I come before Thee with reverence and thanksgiving, acknowledging that every true measure of strength, every steady step, and every faithful victory begins and ends with Thee. I praise Thee for Thy power that upholds me when I am weak, and for Thy wisdom that guides me when I do not know the way. I confess, Lord, that I often attempt to walk in my own understanding, to lean upon my own efforts, and to measure my days by my own ability. Yet my soul bears witness that my own strength is not enough, and my heart needs the sure foundation that only Thy hand can provide.
Today I hold to Thy Word, and I speak it before Thee in faith, just as it is written: “[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ [feet], and setteth me upon my high places.” Father, let this Word be living within me. Let it be more than a verse I recite—let it become a truth I breathe, a promise I trust, and a song that steadies my spirit.
Lord, “girdeth me with strength”: I ask Thee to fasten strength upon me as a garment that cannot be torn away by fear, fatigue, or discouragement. Gird my mind with steadiness when thoughts are scattered and anxious. Gird my heart with courage when I feel pressed by responsibilities, uncertainty, or grief. Gird my hands with diligence for the work Thou hast given me, and keep me from wasting my strength on bitterness, strife, or empty pursuits. Teach me to draw strength from Thee in the secret place, that I may stand with integrity in public places. Make me strong, not for pride or self-exaltation, but for obedience, for service, for patience, and for love.
Thy Word also declares that Thou “maketh my way perfect.” Father, I confess that my way is often tangled with mistakes, delays, and wrong turns. I have chosen poorly at times. I have spoken words I wish I could gather back. I have hesitated when I should have trusted, and I have rushed when I should have waited. Yet Thou art able to order my steps and to straighten what I cannot straighten. Make my way perfect, Lord—not in the sense of my own flawless performance, but in the sense of Thy divine guidance, Thy holy correction, and Thy faithful completion of what concerns me. Align my desires with Thy will. Remove every distraction that draws me away from righteousness. Close doors that would harm my soul, and open doors that lead me into truth and peace.
And Father, as it is written, “He maketh my feet like hinds’ [feet].” Grant me that sure-footed grace to stand and move faithfully even on steep and uncertain ground. When the path is narrow, keep me from slipping into temptation. When I feel unsteady, give me balance through Thy Spirit. When trials rise like cliffs before me, make me able to climb without panic and without despair. Let me not be paralyzed by fear of failure, but guided by the fear of the Lord, which is clean and enduring. Train me to walk wisely, to step carefully, and to move forward with holy confidence.
And Thou hast promised that Thou “setteth me upon my high places.” Lord, I ask not merely for elevation, but for the position Thou hast appointed—places of spiritual victory, places of clearer vision, places where I may worship with a heart made quiet. Set me upon high places where I may see Thy faithfulness above my circumstances. Set me upon high places where I may testify that Thou hast carried me. Set me upon high places where pride cannot reign, but gratitude can. Keep my feet on the heights without arrogance, and keep my heart low in humility, remembering that it is Thy strength that lifted me.
Make me steadfast in every season. When I prosper, keep me thankful. When I suffer, keep me trusting. When I wait, keep me patient. When I move forward, keep me obedient. Let my life reflect the truth of Thy Word: that it is Thou who strengthens, Thou who perfects the way, Thou who steadies the feet, and Thou who sets Thy people where they can stand.
I commit my path to Thee again this day. Let my thoughts, choices, and actions be guided by Thy hand. Let my mouth speak with grace. Let my eyes look unto Thee. Let my steps be ordered in peace. And when I feel weak, remind me of Thy promise: “[It is] God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds’ [feet], and setteth me upon my high places.”
In humble faith, I rest in Thee, and I give Thee all the glory, honour, and praise. Amen.
