A Prayer Against Envy and Fear of Wealth

"Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;" - Psalms 49:16

"Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;" - Psalms 49:{verse.verse_number}

O Lord of Hosts,

As I come before You today, I am reminded of the words from Psalms 49:16, "Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased." In a world filled with escalating riches and the shifting tides of fortune, I ask for Your presence to guide my heart and my mind.

Heavenly Father, I acknowledge that it is easy to be swayed by the glitter of wealth and the material prosperity of others. In a society that often equates success with affluence, I find myself tempted to compare my journey with those who have been blessed with abundance. Help me, Lord, to guard my heart against the seeds of envy and jealousy that can sprout within me when I behold the grandeur of another’s life.

I pray, Lord, that You would instill in me a sense of contentment, a deep understanding of Your provision in my own life, regardless of material wealth. May Your truth ring loud in my heart, reminding me that true value is not found in the riches of this world but in the wealth of knowing You. Help me to shift my focus from the external to the eternal, recognizing that "what does it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36).

Lord, as I witness others being 'made rich,' I ask for Your grace to rejoice in their blessings rather than covet them. Teach me to see the goodness in Your creations and the prosperity that flows from honest hands and faithful labor. May I celebrate with those who are blessed, acknowledging that each of us is a unique expression of Your love and creativity.

Help me to remember that every good and perfect gift comes from You. Whether I am rich or poor by the world’s standards, I am rich in spirit when I walk in Your ways. Strengthen my faith that I may trust in Your divine timing for my life. Remind me that You see the desires of my heart, and that You graciously grant the righteous their needs on Your timetable, not mine.

In these moments where fear creeps in, and when I feel threatened by the accumulation of wealth around me, I will lift my eyes unto the hills from whence comes my help. I shall not fear, for You are beside me, Lord. You are my Shepherd, and I shall not want. Help me to lay my anxieties at Your feet, knowing that You are in control of all circumstances. Guide my heart into a place of peace, where I can acknowledge the blessings surrounding me, regardless of my financial status.

I also pray for those who are rich and their glory. May they recognize the responsibility that comes with their wealth. Teach them to be stewards of their resources, sharing generously with others, and using their abundance to further Your Kingdom on earth. Help them to see beyond the allure of their riches and understand their potential for good in this weary world.

Father, I choose to trust in Your promises. You are my provider, and my hope is anchored in You alone. As I resist the fear of comparison, may I instead be filled with gratitude for what I have been given. Help me to grow in generosity and to influence others positively, encouraging them to place their trust in You rather than in uncertain riches.

Thank you, Lord, for Your everlasting love and faithfulness. I offer this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ, my Savior, who teaches me to walk in love and not in fear.

Amen.
