A Prayer of Acknowledgment and Humility Before His Wrath
"For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?" - Revelation 6:17

O Lord, our God, Almighty and Eternal Father,
In this sacred moment, we come before You with reverence and awe, acknowledging Your supreme authority over heaven and earth. We bow our hearts in humility as we reflect upon the profound scripture from Revelation 6:17: “For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” Lord, how sobering this verse is, and how it weighs upon our consciences! As we consider the gravity of Your impending judgment, we recognize our human frailty and the dire need for Your mercy.
Father, we understand that Your wrath is not a hasty anger but a righteous response to sin. You, in Your holiness, cannot tolerate injustice, evil, or corruption. The world is steeped in lawlessness and rebellion against Your divine will, and we see the consequences of this rebellion manifesting in the hearts of men and women everywhere. Even in our own lives, we confess that we have strayed from Your paths and fallen short of Your glory. As we come to You, we ask for forgiveness for the ways we have sinned against Your Holy Name.
In the book of Revelation, as the seals are opened and the judgments are poured out, we see the gravity of the situation. The earth trembles at the revelation of Your power, and creation itself groans in anticipation of the day of the Lord. We cannot help but feel a sense of dread as we think of that day. “Who shall be able to stand?” We know that no one in our own strength can withstand Your judgment. Our righteousness is as filthy rags in Your sight, and it is only through the sacrifice of Your Son, Jesus Christ, that we have any hope of salvation.
O Lord, in these dire times, we beseech You to extend Your grace to us. We plead for the blood of Jesus to cover our transgressions. Help us recognize and turn away from sin, and empower us by Your Holy Spirit to live righteously in accordance with Your will. May we always remember that Your steadfast love and mercy are new every morning, even as Your judgments loom upon the horizon.
As we reflect upon Your wrath, we are reminded of Your patience and long-suffering. You do not delight in the destruction of the wicked but desire that all come to repentance. May our hearts break for the lost, and may we earnestly seek to share the hope and love of Christ with those who do not know You. Let us be instruments of Your peace in a chaotic world, reflecting Your goodness and mercy so that others may be drawn to You before that great day arrives.
We desire to be among those who stand steadfast — those who wear the armor of God against the trials and tests that come our way. Help us to be vigilant and wise, to build our lives upon the solid rock of our faith, not upon the shifting sands of this fallen world. Strengthen our resolve to stand firm in the faith, to hold fast to the promises in Your Word, and to encourage one another as the day of the Lord approaches.
Lord, as we await Your return, help us to live in anticipation of Your glorious coming. We long for the day when every tear will be wiped away, when death and sorrow will be no more. Until then, remind us daily of the significance of Revelation 6:17; let it compel us to share the Good News of Jesus Christ, so that many may escape Your wrath and find refuge in Your unfailing love.
May we be found faithful, O Lord, and may we confidently yet humbly stand before You on that great day. To You alone be the glory, majesty, and honor, forever and ever. In the precious name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
