Under the Banner of Thy Love
"He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love." - Song of Solomon 2:4

Most holy and gracious Father, I come before Thee with reverence and wonder, thanking Thee for the sweetness of Thy Word and the tenderness of Thy heart toward Thy people. Thou hast spoken a sentence that calms my fears and strengthens my soul: “He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.” Lord, let this truth sink deep within me until it becomes the steady song of my life.
Thou art the One who bringeth me—Thou art not distant, nor hesitant, nor unwilling. I confess that I have often tried to carry myself by my own strength, to navigate my days by my own wisdom, and to earn what can only be received by grace. Yet Thy Word declares, “He brought me to the banqueting house.” Thou dost lead, Thou dost invite, Thou dost welcome. I praise Thee that my place near Thee is not secured by my perfection, but by Thy mercy. Teach me to stop striving in unbelief and to rest in the certainty that Thou art the God who bringeth me in.
Lord, I thank Thee for the banqueting house—this place of provision, fellowship, and abundance. Thou art not a God of crumbs, but a God of a feast. Feed my soul with what is true, pure, and lasting. When my heart is weary, strengthen me. When my thoughts are scattered, gather me. When my spirit is faint, revive me. Let me not live on the empty bread of pride, comparison, and fear, but bring me again and again to the table of Thy presence, where my hunger is met by Thy goodness.
And, Father, I bless Thee for the covering that is over me: “and his banner over me was love.” I thank Thee that Thy banner is not wrath toward the repentant, nor rejection toward the broken, nor contempt toward the weak. Thy banner over me is love—love that shields, love that identifies, love that declares where I belong. When the enemy accuseth, when shame speaketh loudly, when old failures rise up like shadows, lift my eyes to see Thy banner. Let me remember that I stand beneath what Thou hast raised, not beneath what my past hath written.
Lord, teach me to live as one marked by that banner. Let love be the sign over my home, over my thoughts, over my words, and over my choices. Save me from hardness of heart. Save me from suspicion and bitterness. Make me quick to forgive, slow to anger, and ready to seek peace. Where there is brokenness in my relationships, bring healing. Where there is distance, bring humility. Where there is misunderstanding, bring clarity and gentleness. Let the love that covereth me also govern me.
Father, in my afflictions, let this verse be my refuge. When I feel unseen, remind me, “He brought me to the banqueting house.” When I feel unworthy, remind me, “his banner over me was love.” When I feel anxious about tomorrow, remind me that Thou dost lead, and Thou dost provide. When I feel overwhelmed, draw me again into the banqueting house of Thy comfort, and let Thy love be the banner that stills my heart.
Lord, I pray that my life would witness to others that Thy love is real. Make me a living testimony that Thou dost welcome the weary, strengthen the weak, and restore the wandering. Let my speech carry grace. Let my hands be ready for service. Let my eyes notice the lonely. Let my heart be moved with compassion. And when I am tempted to retreat into selfishness, lift up Thy banner before me again, that I may remember whose I am.
I yield myself to Thee, trusting that the One who bringeth me in will also keep me near. Let the banqueting house be my dwelling, and let Thy love be my covering all my days. I thank Thee for this word of assurance and delight: “He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.” Amen.
