A Fountain of Gardens: A Prayer for Living Waters and Holy Refreshing

"A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon." - Song of Solomon 4:15

"A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon." - Song of Solomon 4:{verse.verse_number}

Most Holy God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, I come before Thee with reverence and thanksgiving, drawing near with a needy heart and a thirsty soul. Thy Word is true and pure, and today I set my mind upon the Scripture that saith, “A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.” Lord, I thank Thee that Thou art the Giver of life, the Source of every good and perfect gift, and the One who alone can satisfy the deepest longing within me. Thou hast not called me to dryness, emptiness, or barren striving, but to the rich and living supply that cometh from Thee.

O Lord, make my heart, by Thy grace, “A fountain of gardens.” Let the secret places of my soul become fruitful ground where Thy presence dwelleth and Thy character is formed. Where my heart hath been hardened by worry, soften it. Where my thoughts have been choked by distractions, clear them. Where my affections have been divided, gather them again into singleness toward Thee. Plant within me holy desires, righteous habits, and a steadfast love for Thy ways. Cause the garden of my inner life to be tended by Thy Spirit—uprooting bitterness, pulling out envy, removing fear, and casting down every imagination that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God. Let the fruit of my life be pleasing unto Thee, not for my glory, but for Thine.

Father, Thou hast declared, “A well of living waters.” I confess that many times I have sought refreshment in broken cisterns that hold no water. I have tried to quiet my soul with things that cannot heal, and I have leaned on my own understanding when I should have trusted in Thee. Forgive me, Lord. Lead me back to the well that never runs dry. Let Thy living waters rise within me—pure, cleansing, and renewing. Wash me from hidden faults and from the stains of daily compromise. Purify my motives, refine my speech, and sanctify my imagination. Grant that the living waters of Thy grace would continually cleanse my conscience and strengthen my faith, that I may walk uprightly before Thee.

Lord, I also pray that what Thou hast placed within would not remain closed up or hoarded, but would become “streams from Lebanon.” Let the life Thou givest overflow in gentleness, in truth, in compassion, and in courage. Make me a channel of blessing, not a reservoir of selfishness. Where there is weariness in my home, let streams of peace flow. Where there is tension in my relationships, let streams of humility and reconciliation flow. Where there is confusion in my decisions, let streams of wisdom and clarity flow. Where there is sorrow in those around me, let streams of comfort flow. Teach me to speak words that heal and to act in ways that restore, that others may taste and see that the Lord is good.

O God, when I feel depleted, remind me that the fountain is not my own strength, but Thy sustaining power. When I feel dry, teach me to return, again and again, to the Source. Give me the discipline to seek Thee in prayer, to meditate in Thy Word, and to wait upon Thee when answers are delayed. Let me not measure Thy faithfulness by my emotions, nor Thy nearness by my circumstances. Establish me in quiet confidence, that the living waters still flow even when I cannot see them.

Lord, keep me from polluted streams. Guard my eyes, my ears, and my heart, that I may not drink in corruption and then wonder why my spirit is heavy. Give me discernment to refuse what deadens my love for Thee. Let holiness be my delight, and obedience my joy. And when I stumble, lift me up quickly; restore me gently; and bring me back to the well of living waters.

Finally, Father, I pray that my life would testify to this Word: “A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.” Make this not only a verse that I admire, but a reality that I live. Fill me until praise rises naturally. Refresh me until gratitude overflows freely. Strengthen me until service becomes steady. Let my days be watered by Thy mercy, and let my future be guided by Thy hand. I ask these things with humility and faith, trusting Thee to do what I cannot do, and to give what I cannot earn. Amen.
