Dear Heavenly Father,

As we come before You, our hearts are filled with gratitude for the gift of Your Word, which guides us in our daily lives. Today, we reflect on the verse from 1 Chronicles 1:46, "And when Husham was dead, Hadad the son of Bedad, which smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead: and the name of his city was Avith." Lord, through this scripture, we seek Your wisdom concerning leadership, legacy, and the transitions of authority that shape our communities and our world.

Lord God, we acknowledge that throughout history, leaders have risen and fallen, each leaving an imprint on the hearts of their people. We remember Husham, who ruled during his time, and we ponder the legacy he has left. As Husham’s reign came to an end, you raised Hadad, the son of Bedad, to lead after him.

Grant us understanding, O Lord, of the importance of leadership—both its profound impact and the responsibility that comes with it. Help us, as a community and as individuals, to seek leadership that honors You and reflects Your heart. Teach us to support leaders who are wise, strong, and resilient, just like Hadad, the one who wasn't just chosen for his lineage or position, but for his prowess to confront challenges, symbolized by his victory over Midian.

Father, we pray for our current leaders, whether in our families, communities, nations, or within our churches. Bless them with the knowledge and fear of the Lord, that they may govern in righteousness and truth. May they draw strength from You, just as Hadad derived strength from his victories in battle. Lord, we also pray that they will look to You as their guiding light, and follow the example of humility, compassion, and justice that Christ displayed during His earthly ministry.

We also take a moment to reflect on the cities they govern. The city that Hadad ruled, Avith, symbolizes a place of governance and community. May our leaders build cities that are bastions of peace, hope, and love. Father, grant them wisdom to create environments where justice is upheld, and where the vulnerable and marginalized find protection and support. Let the cities built under their leadership thrive in Your grace, becoming places where Your glory is manifested.

Furthermore, Lord, we recognize the significance of each transition in leadership, acknowledging that it sets the stage for new beginnings and renewed missions. We pray especially for those entering into positions of authority: give them the hearts of servants, and instill in them a resolute commitment to seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with You, just as You require of all your children. May they understand that true leadership does not seek power for oneself but serves others, steering them towards a better future.

As we reflect on the very mention of Hadad's conquests and victories over the Midianites, we are reminded of the battles within our own hearts and lives. Help us, Lord, to conquer our personal Midianites—our fears, our doubts, our sins that hinder us from fully submitting to Your will. We pray for fortitude in the face of our challenges and the courage to lead ourselves and others toward Your promises.

In closing, we thank You, Lord, for the unchanging truth of Your Word and the lessons of leadership it reveals. As we navigate these transitions in life, may we always seek Your guidance, look to the examples You’ve set before us, and strive to reflect Your glory in all that we do. Amen.
