A Prayer for Wisdom and Unity in Leadership
"But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not." - 1 Kings 1:10

Heavenly Father,
As I come before you today, my heart is heavy with the lessons contained in Your Word, particularly in the passage from 1 Kings 1:10, which reads, "But Nathan the prophet, and Benaiah, and the mighty men, and Solomon his brother, he called not." Lord, in this moment of reflection, I seek the profound truths embedded within this verse. I am reminded of the importance of unity, discernment, and divine wisdom in leadership, especially in the times when decisions are made, and destinies are altered.
Father, I pray for leaders in our communities, whether they are political leaders, spiritual leaders, or leaders in our families. Just as the lack of inclusion of key figures led to turbulent times in Israel, may our leaders remember the value of wise counsel and the importance of seeking collaboration. Lord, help them to recognize the significance of every voice and to call upon those who are filled with Your wisdom, just as Nathan and Benaiah were among those who stood by King David.
Grant our leaders the humility to invite those who serve with integrity and honor. Let them not isolate themselves nor gather only those who will agree with them, but rather surround themselves with those who are courageous enough to challenge and uplift them. Encourage them to seek the counsel of those who are strong in spirit and righteous in action, just as David should have called upon Nathan and Solomon during a critical moment in Israel’s history.
Lord, I beseech You to instill in leaders the understanding that true strength comes from unity. Just as Benaiah and the mighty men supported David, may our leaders build strong teams that reflect diverse gifts and callings. Teach them the value of community in leadership, showing them how collaboration leads to prospering results—results that glorify Your name and advance the common good. Lord, help to break down walls of division that may exist among leaders, and encourage them to work harmoniously for the sake of those they serve.
In the same vein, I pray for our own hearts. Search me, O God, and reveal any sentiments of pride or self-reliance that may cloud my vision or prevent me from reaching out to others. Help me to recognize the importance of being transparent and accountable, to place myself among those who seek truth and righteousness. May I never become so focused on my agenda that I forget to value the voices of the Nathan and Benaiah in my life.
As I meditate on the implications of isolation in decision-making, I also reflect on Solomon’s position. He was a man chosen for wisdom, yet he was overlooked in that pivotal meeting. Father, I ask that You help us recognize the potential in those who seem overlooked by the world. Open our eyes to the leaders and influencers You have placed in our lives who carry wisdom and insight beyond their years. Make us champions for those who have gifts and ideas worth sharing, even if society has marginalized their voices.
Finally, dear Lord, I place before You our current situations. In my personal life and within the broader scope of my community, I yearn for clarity and direction. May Your divine wisdom permeate our thoughts and decisions. Teach us, O Lord, to listen for Your voice amidst the noise of opinions that abound. Align our plans with Your perfect will, and lead us in the way everlasting.
In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
