A Prayer for Faith and Wisdom in Leadership

"¶ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:" - Acts 6:5

"¶ And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:" - Acts 6:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

In this sacred moment, we come before You with hearts full of reverence and gratitude, thanking You for the gift of Your Word and the powerful examples You have provided us throughout Scripture. We are particularly moved by the account in Acts 6:5, where the faith-filled selection of servants to aid the burgeoning church reveals Your divine guidance in times of need. "And the saying pleased the whole multitude: and they chose Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Ghost, and Philip, and Prochorus, and Nicanor, and Timon, and Parmenas, and Nicolas a proselyte of Antioch:" Lord, what a remarkable demonstration of unity and purpose among Your people, reflecting the importance of choosing those who are filled with faith and wisdom.

Today, I ask You to instill within us the same spirit of faith and discernment that was evident in the early church. As the multitude gathered, seeking direction and leadership, let us also come together as a community seeking Your will for our lives. Help us to recognize the qualities we should desire in those who lead us—qualities such as integrity, humility, wisdom, and, foremost, an unwavering faith in You. May we be inspired by the choices made then, choosing leaders who not only possess the technical abilities required but who are, more importantly, filled with the Holy Spirit.

Lord, in this turbulent world, we face numerous challenges—divisions in communities, misunderstandings among leaders, and conflicts that seem insurmountable. In such a time of uncertainty, let us seek You earnestly to guide our hearts and minds. Help us to please You in our decisions, ensuring that our choices are not based upon our own understanding but upon the wisdom that flows from Your throne of grace. May we emulate the early church, where unity and faith harmonized to bring about Your purpose and glory.

I also pray for those whom You have called into leadership roles. Strengthen them with the grace of the Holy Spirit as You did with Stephen, who showed such extraordinary faith and commitment. Grant them clarity to discern Your will in decisions they face, and the courage to act upon those divine promptings. May they be bold in their proclamation of the Gospel, just as Stephen was, and may they find joy in serving others as they demonstrate Your love in action. Inspire them to lead by example, displaying the fruits of the Spirit in every aspect of their lives.

Father, we also lift up the many others who were named alongside Stephen—Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolas. Each was called to serve, and each played a vital role in the foundation of the early church. Help us to recognize that You have called each of us in our own capacity to be ministers of Your Grace, regardless of where we find ourselves situated in our community or our personal walks of life. May we be diligent in our service, willing to put aside our own desires for the betterment of our brothers and sisters in Christ.

Lord, awaken in us a desire to seek and encourage leaders who reflect Your Kingdom values. May we surround them with prayer and support, faithfully lifting them up as they strive to navigate the complexities of their roles in service to others. Help us to value our collective voice, just as the multitude did with their choices, knowing that we are stronger together in unity.

As we conclude this prayer, we thank You for Your endless love and faithfulness. We trust that You will guide us in our endeavors just as You guided the early church. May we always seek to please You with our choices, just as they did. In the name of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ, we pray, Amen.
