A Prayer of Thankfulness and Reflection on God’s Provision
"But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee." - Deuteronomy 20:14

O Sovereign Lord,
I come before You today with a heart full of gratitude and reverence, acknowledging Your greatness and the immeasurable provision You bestow upon Your children. In Deuteronomy 20:14 it is written, "But the women, and the little ones, and the cattle, and all that is in the city, even all the spoil thereof, shalt thou take unto thyself; and thou shalt eat the spoil of thine enemies, which the LORD thy God hath given thee." Father, as I reflect on this verse, I am reminded of the abundant blessings You have graciously allowed into my life.
I thank You for the treasures both seen and unseen that You have provided. Just as You instructed the Israelites on the battlefield, reminding them that the spoils of war were a gift from You; I too, recognize that every good thing in my life comes from Your hand. Help me, Lord, to always acknowledge that it is by Your grace that I stand, and through Your mercy that I receive.
Lord, I recognize that You have entrusted me with relationships, just as You did with the women and little ones mentioned in this scripture. I pray that I may honor and cherish these connections. May I nurture them with kindness and love, understanding the weight of responsibility I carry as their support. Through Your guidance, let my interactions reflect the compassion and grace that flow from You.
As I ponder over the mention of cattle and possessions in this verse, I am reminded of the responsibilities I have over the resources and gifts that You have given to me. Teach me, O God, to be a good steward of all that has been entrusted to me. Help me to use my time, talents, and finances wisely, and to share generously with those in need. Help me to see the value in what I possess and to utilize it for Your glory while being ever gracious for Your providence.
Your Word speaks not only of the gifts but also of the enemies from whom You have given victory. Lord, I acknowledge that life presents challenges and adversaries that sometimes feel daunting. In these moments, remind me that I need not fight these battles alone. Your promise that the victory belongs to You gives me comfort and assurance that You are in control. Let me always seek Your strength in times of trouble, lifting my eyes to You as my ultimate help.
Father, may I learn to approach conflict with love in my heart and a desire for peace. Teach me to conquer my enemies not with hatred or disdain, but through understanding and compassion. Just as You led Your people into victory, lead me into resolutions that glorify Your name.
Thank You, Lord, for the spoils that You allow me to enjoy in this life. Help me to enjoy these blessings with a grateful heart, sharing them freely with others. In my rejoicing, may I never forget the sacrifices made so that I could inherit these blessings, and may my joy honor those gifts bestowed upon me.
As I conclude this prayer, Lord, I invite Your Holy Spirit to guide me in all my endeavors. May I carry the lessons of Deuteronomy 20:14 with me, rooted in the understanding of Your unending provision and the importance of valuing every aspect of my life. Let my actions reflect a heart filled with thankfulness and a desire to serve You.
In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray,
Amen.
