Gracious Heavenly Father,
We come before You today, humbled and in awe of Your sovereign power and wisdom. As we reflect on the account of Haman in Esther 5:9-13, we realize how the heart of man can sometimes be filled with pride and indignation. Haman, who was filled with joy and gladness one moment, allowed the presence of Mordecai to turn his heart to bitterness and anger. We see in this narrative the struggles of the human heart—a desire for recognition and an inability to cope with perceived slights.
Lord, as we pray, we ask that You cultivate in us hearts that seek Your glory above our own. Help us to remember the words of the scriptures where it is written, "Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18).
