By the River from the Sanctuary: A Prayer for Fruitfulness and Healing
“And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.” — Ezekiel 47:12
Holy and gracious God, I come before You with reverence and hope, holding fast to Your Word. You have spoken through the prophet, saying: “And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.” Lord, let this promise become living truth in my heart, my home, my church, and my generation.
Father, I thank You that the waters “issued out of the sanctuary.” You are not a distant source, and Your life is not a dry theory. You are holy, You are present, and You are the fountain of all that is pure and sustaining. Where my soul has been thirsty, draw me back to the sanctuary—back to worship, back to obedience, back to awe, back to prayer. Cleanse my motives and quiet my distractions so I may receive what only You can give. Let the river of Your presence flow where anxiety has dammed my peace, where bitterness has choked my joy, and where fear has made my faith feel small.
Lord, by that river You cause “all trees for meat” to grow. Make me like one of those trees, planted and nourished by what comes from You. Root me deeply in Your truth so that I am not moved by every wind, not swayed by every opinion, not weakened by every delay. Grow in me a steady spiritual strength that can carry responsibility, endure testing, and still remain tender toward You. Teach me to draw daily from the river that comes from the sanctuary, not from the broken cisterns of pride, self-sufficiency, and empty striving.
You declare that the tree’s “leaf shall not fade.” God, preserve what You have planted in me. When seasons change, when I face fatigue, disappointment, or hidden battles, keep my leaves from fading. Where I have felt worn down, renew me. Where I have become cynical, soften me. Where I have grown cold in love, warm me again by Your Spirit. Let my outward life bear witness to an inward supply that does not run out, because it is not of me—it is of You.
And You promise that the fruit “shall not be consumed,” and that it “shall bring forth new fruit according to his months.” Lord, I ask for fruitfulness that is not a momentary burst but a faithful pattern. Give me “new fruit according to his months”—timely obedience, timely wisdom, timely kindness, timely courage. When it is time to speak, let my words be clean and helpful. When it is time to be silent, give me restraint and humility. When it is time to serve, strengthen my hands. When it is time to repent, grant me godly sorrow and true change. Make my life a steady witness that You can bring forth newness again and again.
You also say, “the fruit thereof shall be for meat.” Lord, make the fruit of my life nourishing to others. Let my decisions bless my family and not drain them. Let my work be honest and my influence be safe. Let my generosity be real, my compassion practical, and my love consistent. Where there is need around me—spiritual, emotional, and physical—help me to be a vessel through which You provide sustaining “meat.” Keep me from producing empty appearance, and instead cultivate what truly feeds faith, hope, and love.
And Father, You declare, “the leaf thereof for medicine.” I ask You to make me an instrument of healing. Where relationships are wounded, use me to bring peace. Where hearts are broken, teach me to comfort without pride and to listen without judgment. Where people are weary, let my presence be gentle and safe. Heal my own hidden places too—those injuries I have carried for years, those fears I have named and those I have not. By Your mercy, make even my scars testify that Your medicine is real and Your restoration is holy.
Lord, keep me close to the sanctuary, close to the river, close to the Source. Let everything in my life that is barren be visited by Your living water. Let everything that is poisonous be purified. Let everything that is dying be revived. And may all glory return to You alone, the Giver of the river, the Grower of the trees, and the Healer who provides fruit for meat and leaves for medicine.
I pray this with gratitude and trust, anchored in Your Word: “because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary.” Amen.
