A Prayer for Purity and Commitment in Relationships

O Lord God Almighty, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, I humbly come before You, acknowledging Your sovereignty over every aspect of our lives. Today, I want to reflect upon the words of Genesis 34:12, where it is written: "Ask me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife." Lord, in a world steeped in superficial connections and fleeting desires, I seek Your guidance to understand the depth of true affection and unity that can only be found in You. Just as Shechem earnestly sought Dinah, yearning for her hand in marriage above the material possessions and dowries of this world, may we also prioritize love and integrity over earthly riches. Help us to be mindful of our intentions as we engage in relationships, that they may be rooted in genuine affection and a commitment to honor one another.

Heavenly Father, I pray for those who are searching for love or navigating the tumultuous waters of relationships. Grant us discernment to choose partners who reflect Your love and character. Instill in us the wisdom to recognize what true love is—a love that does not seek only personal satisfaction but seeks the wellbeing and growth of the other. As You bring people together, may it be under the principles of mutual respect and devotion, honoring the sacred bond of marriage as You designed it to be.

Lord, bless those in relationships facing trials and temptations. Just as Shechem was willing to offer a dowry, let us not be tempted by that which is easy or that which glitters on the surface. Instead, may we hold tightly to the true values of love, fidelity, and a willingness to sacrifice for the sake of our loved ones. Let us be reminded that the worth of a union is not contingent upon material wealth but on the strength of the commitments made before You.
