A Prayer for Divine Provision in Times of Need
"And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine." - Genesis 41:36

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, I am reminded of the wisdom and foresight demonstrated in Your word through the life of Joseph. In Genesis 41:36, it is written, "And that food shall be for store to the land against the seven years of famine, which shall be in the land of Egypt; that the land perish not through the famine." Lord, You showed Joseph the urgency of preparation in the face of impending scarcity, and I pray that this same spirit of foresight and prudence permeates my life and those I love.
Gracious God, I recognize that there are seasons of plenty and seasons of lack. In this world filled with uncertainties, teach us to make the most of every opportunity, just as Joseph was instructed during the years of abundance. Inspire us to gather and to store in preparation for what may lie ahead. Instill in our hearts the truth that it is Your provision that sustains us. Help us to acknowledge that every good and perfect gift comes from You. It is from Your hand that we receive the resources necessary for our well-being.
As we reflect on the seven years of famine faced by the people of Egypt, I feel the weight of anxiety that comes with the thought of scarcity. Yet, I am reassured by Your promise to provide and Your ability to sustain those who walk in obedience to You. Father, in times when we are faced with fear and doubt, remind us to look to You as our source. You are the God who multiplied the loaves and fishes, who parted the Red Sea, and who brought water from the rock. In those moments of need, allow us to grasp the enormity of Your power and sovereignty.
I pray, Lord, for a spirit of wisdom to fall upon us all. Equip us with the discernment to recognize what to save and what to share with those who may be in need. Help us to be stewards of Your blessings. In times of abundance, may we not be selfish but rather generous and kind, knowing that we are only custodians of what You have given us. Enable us to remember that what we gather is not solely for our enjoyment but for the benefit of others, especially during times of trials and tribulations.
As I reflect on the current state of the world, I see countless individuals and families experiencing their own times of famine — be it spiritually, emotionally, or materially. I ask that You grant us the compassion and love to reach out to those who may feel abandoned or forgotten. Let us be the hands and feet of Jesus, extending grace and hope to those who are suffering. May we be conduits of Your love in our communities, providing support and sharing our resources with those who lack.
Lord, as we prepare for potential futures that might hold difficulties, we ask for Your guidance in our plans. Just as Joseph diligently shared his interpretation of Pharaoh's dreams, may we also communicate Your messages of hope and provision with clarity and boldness. Let us boldly proclaim Your goodness and faithfulness to those around us, trusting in the assurance that You will never leave us nor forsake us.
Finally, I commit into Your hands the resources and opportunities that are before us. I ask that You bless our efforts to plan for future needs and sustain us during dry seasons. May we never forget the lessons learned during times of uncertainty and may we live in the knowledge that You alone are our provider. As we gather and store, may our hearts always remain generous and open to those in need.
In Jesus’ mighty name, I pray, Amen.
