Standing on the Everlasting Word

O Lord our God, Holy and Eternal, we come before Thee with reverence and humble hearts, acknowledging that Thou alone art unchanging, steadfast, and true. We lift our eyes beyond the passing shadows of this world and we anchor our souls in the Scripture that declares, “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” We bless Thee for speaking a Word that does not decay, a promise that does not expire, a truth that cannot be overthrown by time, circumstance, or the schemes of men.

Father, we confess that we are often tempted to trust in what is visible, immediate, and impressive. We are moved by the appearance of strength, success, and security, yet we forget how quickly “the grass withereth, the flower fadeth.” Forgive us, Lord, for placing our confidence in what is temporary—human approval, possessions, influence, or even our own understanding. Teach us to number our days with wisdom and to seek first the things that endure. When we are anxious about tomorrow, remind us that nothing in this world can offer the permanence that belongs to Thee and to Thy Word.

Lord, we thank Thee that in a world of shifting opinions and fading glory, Thy voice remains sure. Let Thy Word be a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. When we are confused, speak clarity through what Thou hast already spoken. When we are weary, revive us with the everlasting promises that cannot fail. When we are wounded, comfort us with truth that is not fragile. When we are tempted, strengthen us with commands that are good and life-giving. When sorrow presses in upon us, let us remember that though seasons change and all earthly things decline, “the word of our God shall stand for ever.”

We pray, O God, that Thou wouldst plant Thy Word deep within us, not merely in our minds but in our hearts. Make us doers of that Word, not hearers only. Guard us from treating Scripture as common, rushing past it, or handling it carelessly. Give us a holy hunger—an appetite for righteousness, an eagerness to read, to meditate, and to obey. Let the living truth of Thy Word shape our thoughts, direct our speech, restrain our impulses, and sanctify our desires. Where we have cherished sin, expose it with Thy light and grant us repentance. Where we have grown cold, rekindle our love by reminding us of Thy faithfulness.

Father, in our homes, establish Thy Word as the foundation. Let marriages be strengthened and healed by truth that stands forever. Let parents speak Scripture with gentleness and consistency, and let children grow with hearts that honor Thee. In our friendships and communities, make us people of integrity—steadfast, humble, and faithful—because we are built upon what does not fade. In our church, keep us anchored in Thy Word rather than in trends, personalities, or human wisdom. Unite us around truth, and grant us courage to uphold what Thou hast spoken with both conviction and love.

Lord, we also bring before Thee the concerns that weigh upon us—uncertainty, sickness, financial strain, fear for the future, grief over what we cannot change. In these moments, we confess that we are like grass, and our strength is limited. Yet we take refuge in the everlasting Word of our God. Help us to entrust every burden to Thee. Teach us to pray Thy promises, to wait with patience, and to hope with confidence, knowing that Thy Word cannot be broken.

Send Thy Spirit, O Lord, to make the Word fruitful in us. Let it produce repentance where there is pride, peace where there is turmoil, perseverance where there is weariness, purity where there is compromise, and joy where there is heaviness. Make us steady when everything around us is shaking, because we are standing on what stands forever.

We praise Thee, Lord, for the unchanging truth declared in Isaiah: “The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever.” Keep us near to Thee, keep us faithful to Thee, and keep us resting upon Thy everlasting Word until the day we see Thee face to face. We ask these things with humble trust, giving Thee all glory and honor. Amen.
