A Prayer of Faith and Understanding

"And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him." - John 11:15

"And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him." - John 11:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

As I come before You with a humble heart, I am reminded of the profound words uttered by our Lord Jesus in the Gospel of John, chapter 11, verse 15: "And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him." Lord, how powerful and transformative are these words! They echo throughout the ages, drawing me closer to You and deepening my faith.

Oh, dear Father, I thank You for the gift of Your Scriptures, which serve as a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path (Psalms 119:105). I reflect on the story surrounding this verse; the anguish and despair of Mary and Martha, two sisters who loved their brother Lazarus. They sent for Jesus, hoping He would come and heal him before death claimed him. But You delayed Your coming. In my own life, I often feel anxious when answers to my prayers seem delayed or when I face trials that stretch my faith thin.

Lord, teach me to understand that Your timing is perfect, even when I cannot see the larger picture. You stated, "I am glad for your sakes that I was not there..." I struggle sometimes with the concept of joy amid sorrow, but I believe You allow certain circumstances in our lives so that our faith may grow. Grant me the grace to embrace my circumstances, trusting that there is a divine purpose at work. Help me to see beyond my immediate feelings of pain or confusion to the immense possibilities that come when I lean into Your will.

Father, instill in me a spirit of belief akin to what You sought to cultivate within Mary and Martha. At times, I find it hard to believe in the miraculous, especially when I am staring at my own tombs of despair: broken relationships, financial struggles, health issues, or spiritual doubts. Yet, I am reminded that sometimes it is in the depths of our trials that You are preparing a greater work in our lives. You reminded them, "to the intent ye may believe," and in my heart, I long for that same intent to be fulfilled in me. Grow my faith, Lord, that I may shine brightly even in the darkest valleys.

As I reflect upon Your statement of gladness, I realize that Your heart is intertwined with ours. Even in our struggles, You rejoice when we turn to You in hope and trust. May I echo that gladness as I navigate my own challenges, knowing that You are with me through every trial. Help me to find joy not just in favorable outcomes, but in the journey You walk with me.

In practical terms, Lord, help me to be a source of encouragement to those around me who may be in similar seasons of doubt and waiting. Let my faith serve as a testament to the power of belief in Your goodness and grace. Just as You invited the disciples to follow You to Lazarus, may I invite others to follow me as I walk in faith towards Your promises.

And so, dear Lord, I step forward in faith today, echoing the invitation You extended. "Let us go unto him," signifies action, purpose, and trust. Empower me, Lord, to move in faith, to act with conviction, and to believe earnestly in the impossible made possible through You. With my heart open and my spirit willing, I allow Your light to guide me through every darkness.

In the mighty name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
