A Prayer for Deliverance and Identity Restoration
"And Jesus asked him, saying, What is thy name? And he said, Legion: because many devils were entered into him." - Luke 8:30

Heavenly Father,
In the sacred moment of prayer, I humbly come before Your throne, captivated by the profound truths in Your Word, specifically as revealed in Luke 8:30. You asked, "What is thy name?" and in response, the afflicted man uttered, "Legion: because many devils were entered into him." Lord, as I reflect upon this passage, I am reminded of the power of identity, the bondage of darkness, and the immeasurable grace that You extend even to the most broken among us.
Father, just as You inquired of the man possessed by demons, I recognize that You seek to know the depths of our hearts, the weight of our burdens, and the names we carry—both the names bestowed upon us by society and those that we have internalized through pain and suffering. And like that man who battled countless demons, many of us bear names that do not align with Your truth. We are often labeled as broken, unworthy, and lost. But, Lord, it is Your desire to redefine our identities, to lift us from the shadows, and to claim us as Your beloved children.
In this moment, I surrender to You every name that has sought to define me outside of Your will—every lie that has echoed in my soul, every whisper of hopelessness that has caused me to doubt my purpose and worth. I renounce the spirit of fear and the chains of guilt that cling to me as I call upon Your holy name. Jesus, You are the name above all names, full of authority and healing, and I stand firmly in the promises that You have made. You are the deliverer, the redeemer, and the restorer.
Lord, I intercede for those who feel like a Legion of demons has invaded their lives—those tormented by addiction, anxiety, depression, and despair. As they wrestle with their own identities, I pray that they may hear Your voice asking, "What is thy name?" and that they will respond honestly, laying bare their wounds before You. Help them to see that You do not shy away from our struggles; instead, You come closer, extending grace and compassion. You desire to replace our struggles with Your truth. Let them know they are not defined by their struggles but by Your love and sacrifice.
According to Your Word, true deliverance comes through surrender. Lord, may we all find the courage to yield our struggles to You, just as the maniac of Gadara did. May we invite You into our heart’s turmoil, allowing You to confront and cast out the spirits that torment us. I ask for Your divine intervention in our lives, that we would be released from the bondage of the past, and restored to the identity that reflects Your glory.
Lord, I pray for a transformation to occur in the depths of our beings; may we emerge as new creations in Christ, no longer shackled by the labels we have carried. Instead, may we adopt the names You have for us: Forgiven. Healed. Loved. Redeemed. Empowered. Filled with purpose. Let our new names echo across the generations, as testimonies of Your wonderful mercy and grace.
May we walk boldly into this new identity, spreading hope and freedom to others trapped in similar darkness. As our lives are illuminated by Your love, may we confidently declare who You are—the One who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think.
Thank You, Lord, for the gift of Your presence and the promise of transformation. I give You all glory, honor, and praise for the mighty work You are doing and will continue to do in me and in the lives of all who seek Your face.
In Jesus’ name, I pray,
Amen.
