A Prayer of Trust and Assurance

"Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?" - Matthew 7:10

"Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?" - Matthew 7:{verse.verse_number}

Heavenly Father,

We come before You today with hearts filled with gratitude and reverence for Your goodness. You are the source of our strength and comfort, the One who knows our innermost needs even before we voice them. In this moment, we turn to Your Word, particularly to the profound wisdom found in Matthew 7:10, which says, “Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?”

Lord, we acknowledge the depth of this scripture and the meaningful implications it has for our daily lives. It reminds us that You, as our loving Father, desire to give us what is good. You understand our needs as a father understands the needs of his children. You do not give us what is harmful or misleading. Instead, You offer us abundance and nourishment for our souls.

In a world that often appears tempestuous and uncertain, where the winds of doubt may threaten to sway our faith in You, help us to remember this truth. When we approach You with our requests, help us to trust in your divine generosity. Protect us from the temptation to believe that You would ever give us a serpent when we ask for a fish. Let us see clearly that everything You give is purposefully crafted in love to benefit us and grow us closer to You.

Forgive us, Lord, for the moments when we have doubted Your goodness or questioned Your plans. At times, we may feel abandoned or lost, thinking that our prayers go unanswered. Remind us in those moments that Your silence is not absence. Rather, it is a call to deeper faith—to embrace the waiting and trust that You are orchestrating our lives according to Your grand design.

May we always be reminded of the assurance that our requests, when rooted in faith and Love, will always be met with that which is befitting of us. Help us to ask with true intent, allowing us to align our desires with Your will, believing that You know best what we need in every situation. Teach us to ask not just for the superficial but for the deeper things of life—the peace, joy, wisdom, and guidance that come from above, those spiritual fish that nourish our hearts and souls.

Father, as we seek You, let our prayers be a two-way conversation. Instill in us an eagerness to hear Your voice, to follow Your prompts, and allow us to fully trust in the path You lay before us. Just as a fish brings sustenance, may our communion with You feed our spirits and lead us to fulfillment in life’s journey.

Moreover, Lord, help us to reflect this principle in our own lives. Equip us to be generous like You are generous. When those around us cry out for support, may we be willing givers who provide what truly serves their needs—a kind word of encouragement, a listening ear, a helping hand. Help us to be instruments of Your grace in the lives of others, never giving a serpent to those who seek after nourishing fish.

We pray now for those who may be struggling, who feel as if they have received a serpent instead of a fish. Remind them that even in trials, Your presence is with them, and there is always a reason for hope. Instill in us a community that reflects Your love, that walks together through uncertainties with faith that acknowledges that our heavenly Father does not forsake us.

We thank You, Lord, for being a good Father—a provider, healer, and guide. May we approach Your throne with trust and confidence, knowing that every good gift emanates from You. We pray this in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
