A Prayer for Humility and Divine Guidance
"¶ Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil." - Proverbs 3:7

Heavenly Father,
As I come before You today, my heart is filled with both reverence and humility. I stand in awe of Your wisdom, understanding that Your ways are higher than my ways, and Your thoughts beyond my thoughts. In Proverbs 3:7, You remind us, "Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.” This verse resonates deeply within me, compelling me to examine my own heart and to seek Your guidance in my daily life.
Lord, I acknowledge the tendency within me to lean on my own understanding. I confess the times I have relied on my limited perspective, thinking I could navigate my path without seeking Your counsel. Forgive me, dear Lord, for those moments when I have been wise in my own eyes, believing that my judgments and decisions were infallible. Help me to understand that true wisdom comes only from You, the source of all knowledge and insight. Teach me to value Your thoughts above my own and remind me that, without You, I can do nothing.
Father, I pray for a heart that fears You—a heart that knows the importance of holding You in reverence and awe. Instill in me a deep respect for Your power and Your holiness. May I recognize that to fear the Lord is not merely to be afraid, but to understand the vastness of Your righteousness and the depth of Your love. Help me to cultivate a fear that leads to trust, love, and obedience to Your Word, guiding my steps as I navigate the complexities of life.
As I seek to depart from evil, I ask for Your help in identifying the areas in my life that do not align with Your will. Show me the temptations that have beset me—the subtle enticements that draw me away from Your presence and Your purpose. Help me to see the sin that so easily ensnares and distracts me, and grant me the strength to resist. Let Your Holy Spirit guide me in moments of weakness, empowering me to turn away from anything that would lead me astray.
Lord, guide my thoughts, my actions, and my conversations. Let them be marked by Your grace and truth. Lord, as I interact with others, may I not promote my own wisdom but instead reflect Your light in all that I do. Teach me to listen more, speak less, and to always seek wise counsel from those who walk in Your ways. May my life be a testament to Your goodness, and may my choices be aligned with Your commands, rooted deeply in love and humility.
I am aware that life’s challenges can be overwhelming, and my own understanding may falter. During those times, remind me that it is in my dependence on You that I find true peace and guidance. Let my heart be steadfast as I place my trust in You—knowing that You direct the steps of those who seek after You. May I always reach out to You first, seeking Your face in prayer and meditation on Your Word, finding guidance that surpasses my own wisdom.
Thank You, Lord, for Your promise to guide me. I rest in the assurance that when I turn to You, fearing You with a humble heart, I will find the direction I seek and the peace I desire. May my life be characterized by a continual pursuit of righteousness and an unwavering commitment to depart from evil.
In Your holy name, I pray. Amen.
