"I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.
He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.
And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God: many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in the LORD." - Psalms 40:1-3

O LORD, my God, I come before Thee with a quiet and needy heart, remembering Thy holy Word in Psalm 40:1–3. Thou hast spoken, and Thy words are true. Today I echo the testimony of the psalmist and I ask Thee to make it living and personal in my life: “I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.” Lord, teach me what it is to wait patiently for Thee—not with bitterness, not with restless striving, not with fear that Thou hast forgotten me, but with a steady faith that trusts Thy timing. When my emotions rise and fall, when my mind races with “what if” and “when,” give me grace to remain before Thee, believing that Thou dost incline Thy ear to the brokenhearted and that none of my tears are wasted in Thy sight.

Father, I confess that I have known seasons that feel like a “horrible pit,” moments when darkness seems deep, and I can see no way out. I confess, too, that I have felt the grip of “the miry clay,” that heavy place where my feet slide, where progress feels impossible, where shame, anxiety, grief, temptation, and weariness cling to me. Yet I thank Thee that Thy Word does not merely describe the pit—it declares Thy deliverance. For it is written, “He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay.” Lord, bring me up. Lift me where I cannot lift myself. Break the suction of despair. Pull me free from every bondage that has held my soul. Rescue me from the habits that weaken my spirit, from the thoughts that accuse me, from the guilt that crushes me, and from the fear that paralyzes my obedience.

And, O God of mercy, do not only remove me from what is beneath me—set me upon what is above me. As Thy Word declares, “and set my feet upon a rock, [and] established my goings.” Place my life upon the Rock that cannot be moved. Establish my steps when I am unsure of my path. Order my goings when I am easily distracted. Strengthen my resolve to walk in righteousness when the way is narrow and the cost feels great. When I have been unstable, make me steady. When I have been double-minded, make me single-hearted. When I have been hesitant, make me courageous. Establish my goings in my home, in my work, in my relationships, and in the private places no one else can see, that I may be the same before Thee in secret as I am before others in public.

Lord, I ask Thee not only for deliverance and direction, but for worship that springs from Thy salvation. Thy Word says, “And he hath put a new song in my mouth, [even] praise unto our God.” Put that new song in me. Let praise rise where complaint once lived. Let gratitude replace murmuring. Let testimony replace silence. Teach my mouth to bless Thee even while I am still learning to wait, and teach my heart to sing even when the memory of the pit tries to return. Purify my praise so it is not merely words, but truth—faithful, reverent, and full of love for Thee.

And, Lord, let my life become a witness. For Thy Word promises, “many shall see [it], and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.” Make the work Thou doest in me visible—not for my glory, but for Thine. Let others see the difference Thy mercy makes: a peace that cannot be explained by circumstances, a steadiness that comes from the Rock, and a song that rises from grace. Use my story to awaken holy fear, to stir reverence, and to draw hearts to trust in Thee. Let those who feel trapped in their own horrible pit find hope as they behold Thy deliverance in my life.

O LORD, I place myself again into Thy hands. I will wait patiently for Thee. Incline unto me, and hear my cry. Bring me up, set me upon the Rock, establish my goings, and put a new song in my mouth—“even praise unto our God.” And may many see it, and fear, and trust in Thee. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
