A Prayer of Remembrance and Gratitude for God's Divine Selection
"Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham;" - Nehemiah 9:7

Heavenly Father,
We come before You today with humble hearts, realizing that You are the Lord our God, the Almighty who reigns over all creation. As we reflect on the depth of Your sovereignty and grace, we are filled with awe as we remember the words of Nehemiah 9:7, ‘Thou art the LORD the God, who didst choose Abram, and broughtest him forth out of Ur of the Chaldees, and gavest him the name of Abraham.’
Lord, in this verse we see Your divine selection and the profound purpose with which You call individuals. Just as You chose Abram, drawing him out of a life steeped in the customs and practices of Ur, so You have selected us from the many paths of this world. We acknowledge that there can be no greater privilege than being chosen by You, and we are grateful for the many ways You’ve called us into Your loving embrace.
Thank You, Father, for the faith that You planted in Abram’s heart. You saw in him a potential that he did not yet realize, and You called him to a journey of faith, promising that he would be the father of many nations. As he left behind the familiar, he stepped into the unknown, guided by Your promise. We pray for that same faith to govern our lives.
Help us, O Lord, to trust in Your heavenly plan as Abram did. In times of uncertainty or doubt, remind us that our paths are in Your capable hands. Teach us that faith often requires us to step into the unknown, and let us find courage in the assurance that You are always with us. Just as You were with Abraham, let us feel Your presence in our lives, leading us to the destinies You have designed for us.
Moreover, Lord, we reflect on the new name that You gave to Abram, transforming him into Abraham—a name that bore the weight of Your promises and the affirmations of his identity in You. We ask that You help us to recognize the new creations we are called to be in Christ. Teach us to embrace our identities as children of the Living God, heirs to a kingdom that is unshakeable. May we shed the labels and the burdens that the world seeks to place upon us, and fully embody the names You have given us.
We acknowledge that with each name comes a responsibility, and we strive to live in accordance with the calling You have placed on our lives. In an age where we often seek validation from people or the world around us, remind us that our value is found in You alone. Help us to walk in the light of Your truth, holding tightly to the promises and calling that comes from being Your beloved children.
Lord, we thank You for the legacy of faith that arises from Your choice of Abraham. His unwavering trust in You inspires us to pursue after You with the same fervor. As he built altars and dedicated his life to You, grant us the same desire to worship and serve You every day of our lives. May our actions reflect our faith and be testimonies of Your greatness.
As we meditate on this divine selection, O God, help us to remember that You continue to choose and call people today. Mobilize our hearts to be witnesses of Your grace and love, so that others too may find the hope and identity we have in You. May our lives be instruments that draw others to the beauty of Your calling, extending the love that was shown to us through Christ.
We give You all praise and honor, dear Lord, for You are faithful and true. We surrender our lives to You, trusting that in Your hands we are cherished, guided, and empowered. In the name of Jesus, we pray,
Amen.
